Mark Lawson Part of Successful 2004 WMHT Art Auction
Mark Lawson, president and CEO of Mark Lawson Antiques, Inc., Saratoga Springs, N.Y., presided as auctioneer over the 2004 WMHT Art Auction, which aired live on January 22 from 7:30 to 11:00 p.m. and January 24 from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The auction was a fundraiser to provide a range of programs and services for public broadcasting across the Capital Region.
The event was a resounding success, as the auction raised $10,000 beyond WMHT’s fixed goal. Cate Mandigo’s Washington County Saturday fetched a pleasantly surprising $8,300 while Cooper Williams’ oil, Bash-Bish Pond, sold for $3,100. In all, the auction proved to be a wonderful venue to raise funds as it increased public awareness of WMHT’s dedication to bringing quality television programs to the capital region.
“The enormous success of the auction was due to Mark Lawson’s wonderful on-air auctioning,” said Warren Garling, director of the auction. As a member of the American Society of Appraisers and a frequent lecturer at many of the Capital Region museums and historical societies, Lawson is well known in the local area as a respected and accredited antique dealer. Lawson has always been a strong supporter of public broadcasting as an underwriter for the PBS series Antiques Roadshow that airs on WMHT weekly.
